Tree rules in Mitcham
- City of Mitcham's tree assistance fund can pay up to 50% (maximum $2,000) towards an arborist assessment report, pruning, pest and disease control, or fauna support like nest boxes, for a tree on your property measuring at least 1 m around the trunk. It doesn't cover removal, root pruning or work already started.
- Council approves the application first, then reviews the arborist's report before any physical work goes ahead. If the work needs development approval, that goes through PlanSA before work starts, and council says the assessing arborist is best placed to manage it. We can do both. Council paused new applications after a big response, so check with council for the next round.
- Council lists Urrbrae, Belair, Hawthorndene, Blackwood and Coromandel Valley in its high fire risk area, and runs fuel reduction across the Mitcham hills. Different tree clearance rules can apply near houses in bushfire overlays, so we check your address before quoting.
- Coromandel Valley is split by the Sturt River: the Mitcham side is covered here, and the other side is in the City of Onkaparinga, where native vegetation rules apply across the whole council area.
State-wide rules on regulated and significant trees apply here too. See the short version.
