Tree rules in Onkaparinga

  • The Native Vegetation Act 1991 applies to the whole City of Onkaparinga, not just the hills. Clearing native trees or scrub can need consent from the Native Vegetation Council, and it still has to be lodged through PlanSA.
  • Removing a regulated or significant tree needs a development application through PlanSA, with the landowner's consent and a site plan. If the reason is that the tree is hazardous, council asks for an arborist report.
  • Replacement trees can't be an exempt species, can't be planted within 3 m of a dwelling or pool, and fruit trees don't count.
  • Parts of the council area are bushfire-prone. Council has named suburbs including Happy Valley, Flagstaff Hill, Clarendon and Willunga for fuel-reduction work. Within a bushfire overlay, different clearance rules apply near houses, so we check your address in the SA Property and Planning Atlas before quoting.

State-wide rules on regulated and significant trees apply here too. See the short version.
